Veteran batsman Colin Munro hasn't given up on his dream of playing in another World Cup for New Zealand, despite being left out of coach Gary Stead's plans this summer.
Munro has signed with Perth Scorchers for the upcoming Australian Big Bash, where he hopes to put NZ selectors on notice.
"It's trying to make the best of my opportunities that come," Munro tells Newshub. "Cricket's such a funny game.
"When you're in form, everyone wants a piece of you. When you're not, you're out the door."
Without a Blackcaps contract, Munro was left little choice, but to look overseas.
"Obviously, I was very disappointed to not be wanted in a way," he admits.
"It was a tough decision... not getting the central contract made things slightly easier."
The 33-year-old still harbours dreams of playing for the Blackcaps again, but realises it will be tough to get back in favour with selectors.
"The door's not shut, but it's closing a little bit, if I'm honest."
And with COVID-19 casting further shadows over his immediate future, Perth was the perfect place to try and develop, while also supporting his family.
"It's about trying to look after them now as well, and also play cricket and play at the highest level of cricket," he says.
But ultimately, the dream of getting back to the international stage is key for Munro.
"Like you said, there's World Cups coming up. Hopefully, I can put my hand up and score plenty of runs around the world in the next 6-8 months."
