All Blacks halfback Aaron Smith has put a Twitter user in his place, over a claim that male players wouldn't pay to watch women's rugby.
On Wednesday, user 'David' tweeted: "Bet you all the money in the world not a single male rugby player in any division would pay to go see a women's rugby match."
The 95-test All Black provided a cheeky response from quarantine to hit back at the claims.
"You are wrong I watch all the [Black Ferns] games, also watch our Sevens women carve it up! And I try keep a close eye on our Manawatu cyclones. #PayUp you got pay pal?
With women's rugby becoming a real focus of the sport in recent years, it was fitting for one of New Zealand's best players to voice his support.
The response caught the attention of 2018 Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year Award winner Kendra Cocksedge - the first female to win the top award at the annual New Zealand Rugby awards.
"Love your work my mate! #halfysforlife," she tweets.
Fans followed suit, with many responding to Smith's message.
"When I thought I couldn't admire you more as a player - you go and shut David up!" one fan wrotes.
"Fair play to you, David," says another. "If you're going to get "owned" on a Tweet, congrats on being owned by a current All Black who literally kicks you into touch.
"Perhaps you should come out from behind the keyboard & actually watch a Women's game?"
