NRL 2021: NZ Warriors halfback Chanel Harris-Tavita sidelined for three months with fractured foot

Young NZ Warriors halfback Chanel Harris-Tavita needs surgery on his injured foot and is set for a 12-week spell on the sidelines.

The 22-year-old suffered a stress fracture in his left foot during Friday night's 20-16 loss to Newcastle Knights at Gosford.

The club initially hoped the playmaker would avoid surgery, but scans have revealed the extent of the damage and the prognosis is not good.

Harris-Tavita joins new recruit Euan Aitken in the Warriors medical ward, while the club has been dealt a further blow, with Jamayne Taunoa-Brown suspended for three weeks for a crusher tackle during the Knights clash.

The Warriors have a tough schedule over the next three weeks, with a trip to Canberra this week, followed by Sydney Roosters and Manly Sea Eagles.

New recruit Sean O'Sullivan is expected to play in Harris-Tavita's place.
