Former Kiwis and NZ Warriors centre Gerard Beale will make a shock return to the NRL, after answering an SOS from St George Illawarra Dragons.
Coach Anthony Griffin has reached out to the 30-year-old - who played under him at Brisbane Broncos - to return to the Dragons to help fill the void in their injury-decimated backline.
After two years with the Warriors, Beale retired at the end of last season, citing ongoing injury issues. He's since returned to the field with the Brisbane Tigers in the Intrust Super Cup, playing six games this season so far.
The 11-test Kiwis international played two seasons with the Dragons in 2013 and 2014, scoring 10 tries through 29 games.
Beale will link up with the squad on Tuesday afternoon, as the Dragons scramble to name a 21-man squad for their match against Cronulla Sharks.
The Dragons were understood to have been pursuing Wests Tigers utility Moses Mbye, until those discussions fell over and the one-year offer Beale was made.
He joins former Broncos teammates Ben Hunt, Josh McGuire, Andrew McCullough and Corey Norman at the Dragons.
