Wellington Phoenix finished their A-League season in style with a emphatic 3-0 victory over 10-man Macarthur to extend their club record unbeaten streak to 11-games.
The Phoenix came into the contest with nothing to play for after Adelaide United booked their spot in the finals with a 2-2 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers on Thursday.
But the Phoenix didn't lack motivation as they dominated from start to finish, unleashing 22 shots to 13 to outclass their finals bound opponents and grab their 10th victory of the season.
Wellington made one change from their heartbreaking 2-2 draw with Perth Glory with captain Ulises Davila back into the starting lineup and playing against the club he is reportedly joining next season.
Macarthur had an early chance through James Meredith who headed over the bar from a corner but it was the visitors who dominated the early stages.
English import David Ball created the best early chance after eight minutes when he turned and shot but his curling effort just missed the top right hand corner.
Just a minute later, Reno Piscopo forced Macarthur goalkeeper Adam Federici into two good saves to keep the scores level.
Sam Sutton - who is yet to suffer defeat when he's played this season - had a glorious opportunity to open the scoring but his header was blocked on the line.
The home side started to come into the contest late in the first half, and Najjar's header forced Phoenix' stopper Oliver Sail into an easy save.
All Wellington's pressure finally paid off in first half stoppage time when Ball finished a brilliant counter attack for his sixth goal of the season.
The attack all started when Davila found spcae in the middle of the park before firing a great pass out to Tomer Hemed who produced a brilliant backheal to a hard-running Ball who fired low into the bottom corner to hand his side a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Phoenix couldn't have hoped for a better start to the second half, when Hemed - who made history to become the first player in Phoenix history to score in five consecutive games - doubled the lead inside 50 seconds thanks to a bit of good fortune as the ball bounced off Davila and fall to to the Israeli international who slotted it past Federici.
Macarthur looked to hit back straight away with Michael Ruhs header rattling the post before Piscopo went straight down the other end and fired his shot against the bar.
The home side's night went from bad to worse when Loic Puyo was harshly sent off for a raised boot in a challenge with Davila.
The referee initially gave a yellow card but after consultation with the video referee assistant, the decision was upgraded to a red card.
The visitors continued to dominate with Hemed blasting a dipping shot against the bar before Cameron Devlin forced a great save out of Federici.
The Phoenix penalty issues continued when Hemed had his spot kick saved by Federici after Louis Fenton was fouled by Lachlan Rose seven minutes from time.
But Wellington didn't let that miss deter them when they finished the contest in style, when Ball played a delightful ball through to Ben Waine who blasted home to score his seventh goal of the season.
The Phoenix's 10th victory of the season sees them finish seventh one point outside the top six.
