Trent Boult won't take part in the Blackcaps series against England, but should feature in the World Test Championship final against India, coach Gary Stead says.
Boult, 31, opted not to travel with the Blackcaps to England, instead choosing to remain at home with his family after the suspension of the Indian Premier League at the start of May.
Boult has been with his family in Mount Maunganui since finishing his stint in managed isolation after returning from India. He's even managed to get in some training at Bay Oval.
The left-armer will depart New Zealand at the end of the week, and will arrive in England after the start of the first test.
Initially slated to only miss the first test against England, beginning at Lord's on Wednesday night, Stead says that he doesn't expect to have the services of his star seamer for the series finale at Birmingham's Edgbaston either.
But, Stead is also confident that Boult will be ready for the World Test Championship final, with New Zealand facing India at Southampton's Ageas Bowl for the inaugural title.
"I don't think you'll see Trent in the two test matches here," Stead says of the England series.
"He arrives on Friday and our planning and what we're looking at doing with Trent is having him ready for the World Test Championship final.
"He's been home and he has had a week of bowling over there, which has been great, after the fair amount of isolation time at the end of the IPL.
"But our view with Trent right now is it's unlikely that he will play the test in Edgbaston, and he's more likely to be just available for the one-off test."
Boult will likely be replaced by one of Matt Henry, Jacob Duffy or Doug Bracewell for the England series, forming New Zealand's pace quartet alongside Tim Southee, Neil Wagner and Kyle Jamieson.
The Blackcaps' test series against England begins at Lord's on June 2 and finishes at Edgbaston from June 10, before the World Test Championship final against India on June 18.
