NRL 2021: Shaun Johnson among Cronulla Sharks stars reportedly told to find a new club for 2022

Kiwis half Shaun Johnson could be on the lookout for a new club, reportedly one of three players told to look elsewhere for the 2022 NRL season by Cronulla Sharks.

According to Sydney's Daily Telegraph, Johnson and fellow Sharks stars Josh Dugan and Aaron Woods have all been told their services are not required, as Cronulla look to rebuild under new coach Craig Fitzgibbon.

The Sharks have already signed versatile utility Nicho Hynes on a deal worth a reported $1.8m through until 2024, while Cronulla's re-signing of Will Kennedy and Toby Rudolph has also cost the club around $2.5m.

Those three players' deals are understood to have left the Sharks needing to clear space on their salary cap, with the trio of Johnson, Woods and Dugan all off-contract for next year.

Speaking last week, Johnson said that he wasn't thinking as far as where he'll be playing next year.

"I haven't got anything set in stone on where I'm going to be next year at this point," he said.

"It hasn't been a worry of mine. I've just been focused on stringing games together.

"Everything is an option. All options are open and all I can control is getting back out on the park."

Johnson was reportedly offered back to NZ Warriors - his former club - earlier this year, but any chance of his return was rejected by the players.
