Tokyo Olympics: Fears over Black Sticks' Kayla Whitelock's Tokyo campaign after knee injury against Australia

Veteran Black Stick Kayla Whitelock is in danger of missing her fifth Olympics after suffering what appeared to be a serious knee injury in the last game of the series against Australia.

Playing her 260th test in Palmerston North last night, 34-year-old Whitelock went down in the first few minutes before being assisted from the field.

The Black Sticks say Whitelock will be properly assessed on Wednesday.

After drawing the first three games the New Zealand women were beaten 3-1, while the Australian men swept their series following a 5-1 win last night.

The teams play a return series in Perth at the end of the month. Both Olympic hockey squads will be named next Tuesday.
