Kiwi surfer Paige Hareb's bid for the Tokyo Olympics is over.
The 30-year-old was forced into a sudden death repechage, after being knocked out of the main draw at the International Surfing Association World Surfing Games in El Salvador on Sunday (NZ time).
With only two places available to advance in the qualifying event, Hareb finished fourth, putting her out of contention for July's Games.
The Taranaki-product made some uncharacteristic errors during the repechage heat, at one stage slipping from her board during the event, where she placed second back in 2018.
That means only two surfers - Ella Williams and Billy Stairmand - will represent New Zealand at surfing's Olympics debut, two short of its quota of two men and two women.
Williams and Stairmand didn't compete in El Salvador but had their provisional places confirmed by the ISA, which they earned at the qualification event at the Olympics venue in Japan in September.
