The winners of the World Test Championship Final between the Blackcaps and India will take home a purse of NZ$2.2 million, along with the ICC Test Championship Mace.
The losing team will get NZ$1.1 million for finishing second in the nine-team competition.
The Test Mace, previously given to teams topping the ICC men's test team rankings will now be given to the WTC winners.
If the match ends in a draw or a tie, the finalists will split the prizemoney for first and second places, and share possession of the trophy during the time they remain champions.
The final begins at Southampton's Rosebowl on Friday night (NZ time), with the Blackcaps to announce their 15-man squad for the match on Tuesday.
New Zealand head into the historic test off the back of a rare series win in England, after completing an eight-wicket win at Edgbaston.
