Will Jordan has scored five tries, as the All Blacks romped to a record-equalling 102-0 win over Tonga in their opening test of 2021.
While the result was never in question, the nature of the All Blacks performance would have impressed coach Ian Foster.
Electric counter-attack, slick hands and dominant ball-running all featured in a decent workout, before much bigger challenges, starting with Fiji next weekend.
And Jordan shone brightest on a night when several players in black showed their class against a criminally under-strength Tongan side, featuring a collection of NZ-based club and provincial players.
Jordan bagged two tries in the first half, before adding three more in the second, but his silky skills were on full show against the gutsy Tongans, who never gave up, despite the clear gulf between the two sides.
Tasman's Jordan showed more than just his blistering pace, mixing in kicks, some excellent link play and flawless security under the high ball, as the All Blacks equalled the effort of the 2001 side, which also beat Tonga 102-0.
A little over 15,000 fans witnessed New Zealand's first-ever test at Mt Smart Stadium on a cold night in Auckland, but there was plenty of support - noticeably wearing red - providing a great atmosphere to open the season.
Fullback Damian McKenzie opened the scoring in the second minute, after nice build-up play from winger George Bridge, and by the 10th minute, the All Blacks led 24-0.
Dalton Papalii, Brad Weber and Jordan all scored, as New Zealand ran rampant over an outmatched and shellshocked Tongan outfit.
There was a brief reprieve for the visitors, but defence quickly turned to attack for the All Blacks, as Weber dotted down for his second, after a sweeping move involving mobile prop Angus Ta'avao.
Jordan scored his second at the 20-minute mark and Papalii grabbed his double just before halftime, giving the All Blacks a 43-0 lead at the break.
Luke Jacobson capped of his first test appearance in two years with a try two minutes into the second half, moments before superb handling from McKenzie presented Jordan with his hat-trick of tries.
Weber scored his third try two minutes later, before first-five Richie Mo'unga scored his sole try after 53 minutes.
Jordan's fourth came two minutes later, completing a wonderful counterattack, involving half the side.
Centre Rieko Ioane scored off a wonderful chip kick from replacement playmaker Beauden Barrett that saw debutant Quinn Tupaea expertly offload to the flying Blues back to run away to score.
Jordan finished his tryscoring exploits with 12 minutes to go, to seriously threaten Marc Ellis' 26-year record of six tries in a match - set against Japan at the 1995 Rugby World Cup - but the Crusaders star ended the game quietly.
The All Blacks scored a further two tries through Patrick Tuipulotu and George Bridge to hit the century mark.
A well-drilled and near full-strength Fijian side should provide a tougher test next week in Dunedin.
