Several St George Dragons players are under investigation for breaching COVID-19 lockdown for attending a house party, after their 19-18 Golden Point victory over NZ Warriors on Friday.
The Wollongong side rallied from 18-6 down with 10 minutes remaining to force extra time and snatch victory with a Golden Point field goal at Gosford, inflicting the Warriors' fourth straight defeat.
But New South Wales Police and the NRL Integrity Unit are now probing a victory celebration, reportedly at the home of veteran forward Paul Vaughan.
Channel Nine reports up to 12-15 players attended the party, which broke federal and competition stay-at-home protocols, as Australia struggles to contain a renewed outbreak of the coronavirus.
The Dragons have confirmed an "investigation into the matter with the NRL Integrity Unit and NSW Police continues".
Under a Greater Sydney lockdown, residents need a reasonable excuse to visit another person's house.
Under NRL Project Apollo rules, players must remain at home, unless they are training, playing or completing essential tasks, and cannot visit other players or officials.
"The NRL is aware of an alleged breach of bio-security protocols involving members of the St George Illawarra Dragons," says an NRL spokesman.
"The Integrity Unit is speaking with the club and the players involved. The NRL will follow the advice of the game's bio-security experts."
With a State of Origin bye looming, St George are on a two-week break, before their next game against Manly on July 16.
Previous offenders have been fined or suspended by the NRL, depending on the severity of their offence.
