Ousted dual-international star Israel Folau will return to the 15-man code, signing a deal with Japan Top League side NTT Communications Shining Arcs.
Folau was sacked by Rugby Australia in 2019, due to anti-gay comments on social media, but will link with Blues star Otere Black, who has inked a two-year deal with the Greater Tokyo club, under former Crusaders coach Rob Penney, who has been named their new director of rugby.
Last week, Folau, 32, was released from his contract with French rugby league side Catalans Dragons, opening the door for a comeback in the second-tier Queensland Rugby League competition with amateur side Southport Tigers, where he's now registered to play.
Folau had lodged a Supreme Court injunction against the QRL, after the governing body refused his registration.
"As previously stated, the QRL Board has carefully considered all aspects of the registration request, in line with its current rules and processes," QRL said.
"The QRL made clear from the outset that Mr Folau would be registered upon completion of the registration process, including the obtaining of a release from his previous overseas club, as per the rules of the game which apply to all players."
The Top League season doesn't begin until December, meaning he'll likely play out this season with the Tigers - alongside two of his brothers - before making his way to Japan.
A fundamentalist Christian, Folau had his Wallabies and Super Rugby deals terminated after posting a meme that said hell awaited "drunks, homosexuals, adulterers" and others.
Folau played 73 tests for the Wallabies, after a decorated rugby league career in the NRL with Melbourne Storm and Brisbane Broncos.
