Sunday's third Bledisloe Cup test looms as a pivotal one in the career of Beauden Barrett.
The two-time World Rugby player of the year has slipped down the All Blacks first-five pecking order behind Richie Mo'unga in the last two seasons.
But with the Crusaders playmaker choosing to remain at home for the birth of his child, Barrett wants to make a statement and seize his opportunity in Perth and he's relishing the opportunity to remind the world of his capabilities in the black 10 jersey.
"I'm happy to be back focussing on my play at first five," Barret says.
The Blues star was once one of the first names written on the All Blacks team sheet at ten, but Barrett's taken a back-seat to Richie Mo'unga since before the 2019 World Cup - either starting at fullback or coming off the bench.
But with the expectant father Mo'unga remaining in New Zealand, Barrett's almost certainly going to start at first five for Sunday's test in Perth.
"I just want to play well. Every day I want to get better and improve. Getting back in the saddle if I get the opportunity, will be an opportunity for me to lead, to play well and hopefully get the win on Sunday.
And with New Zealand continuing to be in lockdown, Barrett wants to also use the match as a chance to give everyone, including their families, back home some entertainment.
"I think it's a great chance to unite the nation, and give everyone something to look forward to on the weekend, and we hope we can deliver and make you all proud back home."
And if Barrett can show the vintage form that took him to the summit of world rugby, there'll be plenty of proud Kiwis watching from home.
