Olympic shot put bronze medallist Tom Walsh has finished second in the latest Diamond League meeting at Lausanne, Switzerland.
The Kiwi ace threw a best of 22.10m, more than half a metre behind two-time Olympic champion and world recordholder Ryan Crouser.
Despite finishing well behind the American, Walsh is delighted with his performance and believes he is closing the gap on the powerful Crouser, who three 22.81m.
"It was a good competition for me today and I was happy to put pressure on Ryan Crouser this time," says Walsh.
"Throwing far early on in the competition to put pressure on Ryan can be a good tactic to try and beat him."
Walsh finished third at the Tokyo Olympics, behind Crouser and fellow American Joe Kovacs in a repeat of the Rio 2016 podium. Kovacs finished fifth at Lausanne with 21.32m.
Walsh still leads overall Diamond League standings, with the next event in Poland next month.
