Blackcaps batsman Finn Allen has tested positive for COVID-19, as the team arrived in Bangladesh for their upcoming tour.
Allen, who arrived from stints with both Lancashire and Birmingham Phoenix in England, passed his pre-departure tests 48 hours before the team arrived in Bangladesh capital Dhaka.
The 22-year-old is fully vaccinated and quarantining at the Blackcaps' hotel, experiencing moderate symptoms.
Allen has played three T20 internationals, making his debut against Bangladesh last summer.
"It's really unfortunate for Finn," says Blackcaps team manager Mike Sandle. "He's comfortable at the moment, and hopefully he'll recover quickly, test negative, and be cleared and approved for discharge as soon as possible."
Allen will undergo treatment and a period of isolation, and will be cleared to rejoin the Blackcaps after returning negative COVID tests on consecutive days.
The NZ-based Blackcaps contingent have also arrived in Dhaka, after departing on Monday night, and are observing a mandatory three-day quarantine.
No decision has been made over whether Allen will be replaced in the squad, before the Blackcaps' Twenty20 series opener next Wednesday.
Allen is the second New Zealand international to contract COVID-19, after wicketkeeper Tim Seifert tested positive during this year's Indian Premier League.
The Blackcaps will play five T20s against Bangladesh, before touring Pakistan for five T20s and three one-day internationals.
