Kiwi Lydia Ko has made a steady beginning to her campaign at the Women's British Open in Carnoustie, Scotland overnight (NZ time).
The 24-year-old has fired an even par 72 to sit tied in 42nd at the end of her first round. She's five shots shy of the leading trio of Olympic champion Nelly Korda, Sweden's Madelene Sagstrom and South Korea's Sei-young Kim.
The newly ranked world No. 6 came out of the gates with a mixed front nine, reeling off three birdies and two bogeys through a five-hole stretch. She closed her day with even-par across the back nine.
Ko has been tagged as one to watch the famous tournament, as she looks to build on her momentum from her bronze-medal winning performance at the Tokyo Olympics.
In April, she broke her tournament drought with her win at the Lotte Championship in Hawaii in April but is still seeking that next elusive third 'Major'.
Her best result at the British Open is a third-place finish in 2015.
