The Silver Ferns may well be competing for Olympic gold at the Brisbane Games in 2032.
Netball Australia and World Netball have entered a bid with the International Olympic Committee to have the sport added to its programme for the Aussie-hosted Games.
"All our Member Nations are excited at the potential of being part of the Olympic Family in 2032," says World Netball President Liz Nicholl.
"We are committed to exploring the potential with Netball Australia and ensuring that our case for inclusion adds significant value to this very special Olympic movement."
Netball has been a regular feature of the Commonwealth Games since 1998, but has yet to graduate to the Olympics.
Brisbane won the rights to host the 2032 edition of the Olympics last month. It will be the first time the Games have been held in Australia since Sydney 2000.
