New Zealand has added another medal to its haul at the Tokyo Paralympics, as William Stedman took home silver in the men's long jump T36 on Monday.
Stedman, 21, produced a leap of 5.64m with his final jump, taking him from sixth in the standings all the way up into second.
Russian Paralympic Committee's Evgenii Torsunov won gold with a jump of 5.76m, while Ukraine's Roman Pavlyk took home bronze.
The Canterbury native adds Monday's silver medal to the two bronze medals he won at Rio de Janeiro 2016, coming in the 400m T36 and 800m T36.
"Those last two rounds it was a real mental battle, I was jumping 30cm off my PB, it's not going well, and I gave that last jump everything," Stedman said afterwards.
"I thought it was a bad jump, I thought 'oh man that's it'. I saw that 5.64 flash up on the screen and I was like, woah."
Stedman won't have long to wait until he's back in action either, racing in the men's 400m T36 final at 2:20pm on Tuesday.
Stedman's silver came on the same day that saw Sophie Pascoe win her 17th Paralympics medal, finishing third in the final of the women's 100m backstroke S9.
