Boxing: President Donald Trump to provide commentary for Evander Holyfield v Vitor Belfort bout

The following is not fake news.

Former US President Donald Trump will step into the commentary booth for Evander Holyfield's boxing comeback against former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort.

Trump - an avid fight fan, and regular attendee at UFC and boxing events in the past - will be involved in the broadcast on FiteTV at Hollywood, Florida on Sunday (NZ time).

The event will be staged by Triller Fight Club, who promoted Mike Tyson’s return in 2020, and originally matched Belfort against boxing great Oscar De La Hoya, but the ‘Golden Boy’ withdrew last week, after contracting COVID-19.

Triller says Trump will "host and commentate" at the event, which will see Holyfield step into the ring for the first time in 11 years for an eight-round bout against the mixed martial arts star making his pro boxing debut.

"I love great fighters and great fights," Trump says. "I look forward to seeing both and sharing my thoughts ringside.

“You won’t want to miss this special event."

Trump is a longtime fan of combat sports, dating back to the early 2000s, when his New Jersey casinos hosted several UFC pay-per-view events.

UFC president Dana White, a card-carrying Republican, was often a guest speaker for Trump during his presidential campaigns.

White threw his unmistakable support behind Trump’s push for a second term in office, which did not come to fruition.

The co-main event will see two former UFC champions Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz do battle in the boxing ring.
