Cricket: Blackcap Lockie Ferguson takes two wickets as Kolkata Knight Riders trounce Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore

NZ speedster Lockie Ferguson's two wickets have helped his Kolkata Knight Riders to an Indian Premier League victory over Royal Challengers of Bangalore.

The result was not befitting of Indian captain Virat Kohli's 200 IPL appearance for Bangalore, with his side hammered by nine wickets at Abu Dhabi.

Kohli, who recently announced this campaign would be his last as skipper, made just five runs, after winning the toss and batting, and his side was rolled for 92, with three wickets apiece to Andre Russell (3/9) and Varun Chakravarthy (3/13).

Blackcaps star Ferguson knocked over opener Devdutt Padikkal (22) and Harsha Patel (12) to finish with impressive 2/24 figures.

The Brendon McCullum-coached side needed the big win to stay in contention for a playoff spot.

Indian international Shubman Gill made a quickfire 48 and Venkatesh Iyer an unbeaten 41, as the Knight Riders reached 94/1 inside 10 overs.

"Bit of a wake-up call, so that we know what we should work on,” Kohli says. "You can make the argument that we were rusty, but as professionals, you’re expected to turn up and adjust.

"Sometimes it can take you a game, I hope not two."

Bangalore's vaunted batting line-up was completely stifled, with international stars AB de Villiers (0), Glenn Maxwell (10), Wanindu Hasaranga (0) and Blackcaps allrounder Kyle Jamieson (4) all rolled.

Kolkata moves to fifth in the standings, while Bangalore remains at third.
