NZ 38 Australia 21

NZ - J Barrett, Jordan, Lienert-Brown, Bridge & Havili 2 tries, B Barrett 2 penalties & conversions

Australia - Fainga'a, Banks & White tries; Lolesio & Hodge 2 conversions

Second half

40th minute - All Blacks have an attacking scrum, as the final siren sounds. Perenara is under pressure, but flicks a pass towards Beauden, who just hoofs into touch on the fly to end the game.

If anything, the scoreline flatters Australia, with the All Blacks scoring six tries to three, but struggling to find the posts with their goal-kicking.

39th minute - TRY to Banks

White takes a half gap and finds Banks running a line behind him, so the Wallabies do finally finish off an attack. Hodge converts, NZ 38-21

38th minute - Aussies are hot on attack again, not that that has helped them much today.

36th minute - All Blacks building inside Australia half, but Blackadder spills a pass that wasn't meant for him and knocks on.

Apologies, Scott Barrett is still out there, playing at blindside flanker, with Ioane at No.8. Vai'i has replaced Papalii.

35th minute - Aussies have the ball on halfway, but it bobbles loose and Rieko Ioane snaffles it. All Blacks pour forward.

32nd minute - TRY to Bridge

Aussies win a lineout on the NZ 22 and martial their attack, but Perenara pops up with another intercept and hares upfield.

He realises he doesn't have the speed to finish off, so he puts a crossfield kick for Bridge - it bounces up nicely and the replacement winger canters over. McKenzie hooks his conversion attempt, NZ 38-14

31st minute - Bridge is now on the field, Vai'i has replaced Scott Barrett.

29th minute - TRY to Lienert-Brown

Some incredible interpassing from the All Blacks, with Akira Ioane finally providing the final pass (again) to Lienert-Brown, who forces for a try.

Murphy has some doubts - he can't seem to believe that try was possible, but it was. Replays clear any suspicions.

McKenzie replaces Beauden as the goal-kicker, but he pulls the conversion, NZ 33-14

28th minute - Aussies are finishing strongly here, but Akira Ioane charges down the right sideline and finds Perenara inside.

26th minute - TRY to White

Wallabies win an attacking scrum and Samu charges powerfully, providing the final pass to White, who has just replaced McDermott. Hodge converts, NZ 28-14

25th minute - After 15 phases, the Aussies are just metres out from the tryline, but lose the ball in a tackle.

All Blacks break out and eventually McKenzie streaks away to score. It's called a try, but replays show he lost control of the ball, which hits Beauden in an offside position, so no try.

Some key stats - Australia have had 60 percent possession and have made half the number of tackles as their rivals, but just can't finish off their chances.

24th minute - Australia steam into the NZ half, but the defence is strong.

21st minute - TRY to Havili

Lolesio splits the All Blacks defence and as the ball shifts right, the Wallabies have NZ at their mercy - but Havili pops up to snaffle a long pass and sprint the length of the field to score. Barrett slices this conversion, NZ 28-7

20th minute - Wallabies have an attacking lineout, but can't secure it. Rieko Ioane bursts away from his line and Jordan clears.

19th minute - Aussies have also replaced their props, with Tupou and Bell coming on. They claim first blood, winning a scrum penalty.

17th minute - All Blacks replace their props, with Tu'inukuage and Ta'avao replacing Laulala and Bower - good shift by those two. Perenara also replaces Weber at halfback.

14th minute - TRY to Jordan

Blackadder claims the dropout and the All Blacks shift right. Akira Ioane charges towards the line, draws the last defender and provides Jordan with the final pass.

Beauden pulls his conversion attempt badly, NZ 23-7

13th minute - Aussies are starting to find their feet here, but Beauden puts a little kick behind the defence and McDermott forces for a line dropout.

12th minute - Akira Ioane wins a lineout and when the ball moves left, his brother threatens.

10th minute - TRY to Fainga'a

McDermott shrugs off the tackle of Weber and is brought down just short of the line. From the recycle, the ball moves left and no-one can stop the powerful hooker.

Lolesio converts, NZ 18-7

Ninth minute - McKenzie comes onto the field and NZ are back to full strength numerically.

Eighth minute - Aussies steal the ball in their own half and Banks goes streaking down the right sideline, threatening to score. Rieko Ioane has chased him and tackles him into touch - great cover defence.

Seventh minute - So All Blacks are a man down, and without veterans Whitelock, Coles, Smith, Mo'unga, Taylor and Savea... and still lead 18-0.

Sixth minute - Aussies win an attacking lineout and can build something here, but Lienert-Brown is over the ball at the breakdown and wins a clearing penalty.

Fifth minute - Presumably, Retallick is now captain in Savea's absence.

Rieko Ioane fields a clearing kick from Kellaway and his kick is partially charged down.

Fourth minute - Wallabies win a scrum penalty and can clear their line.

Third minute - Banks and Koibete almost make a mess of a speculator kick behind the goal-line, and eventually Scott Barrett charges down McDermott's attempted clearance.

Second minute - Savea has failed a head injury assessment, so Blackadder is here to stay. Papalii steals the ball, but Aussies steal it back.

First minute - Beauden kicks off and Aussies control, McDermott kicks high and Beauden claims it.

Well, All Blacks still have a few minutes before they can replace Jordie Barrett and Australia have not been able to take advantage of their extra man. They need to do that early to get back in this game.

First half

40th minute - TRY to Havili

Akira Ioane wins another lineout, but the All Blacks have a few metres to maul to get to the line. The forwards power forward, with Blackadder running 20 metres to join in.

Somehow, Havili has got in there and is carried over the line to score. As the half ends, Barrett's conversion is wide left, NZ 18-0

39th minute - Akira Ioane wins a defensive lineout and Weber eventually clears. All Blacks win a penalty, Savea is off the field, with Blackadder on.

38th minute - Aussies win an attacking lineout and maul to the goal-line. They're claiming a try, but Murphy thinks Koroibete is guilty of a double movement.

Replays confirm that, penalty to All Blacks. Another lucky let-off.

37th minute - Aussies on attack, Lolesio kicks high to the corner, but Kellaway can't gather cleanly. They're playing advantage and will come back for the penalty.

Taylor is struggling with injury, Taukei'aho is on.

Banks kicks to the corner.

36th minute - All Blacks have ball in hand, Akira Ioane offloads to Laulala.

35th minute - Wallabies on attack, but a speculator pass from Valetini is nabbed by Laulala.

34th minute - Off that last scrum, the All Blacks dropped Akira Ioane into the backline to defend.

33rd minute - McDermott breaks from a scrum and Kerevi carves upfield again. All Blacks are offside in the Aussie half.

32nd minute - Hooper comes back onto the field with head gear protecting his wound.

31st minute - Clarification here, new rules allow the All Blacks to replace Jordie after 20 minutes, so McKenzie may come on about 10 minutes after halftime. Meanwhile, NZ are still a man short.

30th minute - Jordan runs off the scrum to spark another attack, Beauden kicks across the field for Rieko Ioane, but it bounces into touch. Murphy penalises Australia for offside.

29th minute - Banks kicks for the corner, but overcooks it. Will be interesting to see how the All Blacks react to playing with a man missing.

28th minute - RED CARD to Jordie Barrett

Beauden drops out long, Australia return the kick, Jordie jumps high to catch it, but is penalised for kicking out with his foot, catching Koroibete in the face.

Jordie Barrett is red-carded and NZ will play on a man short.

27th minute - Lolesio sprays the penalty from in front, a chance gone begging.

26th minute - Aussies win an attacking lineout and charge forwards into the 22. Murphy pings Laulala for offside and the Wallabies will kick for goal.

25th minute - McDermott kicks high, Jordan soars to claim it, but is dispossessed by Koroibete, as he comes down.

24th minute - Aussies win a scrum on their own goal-line and Papalii is penalised for offside. Banks clears to near halfway.

23rd minute - Hooper leaves the field with blood streaming from his head, after a clash with Retallick. Big loss for Australia, Samu comes on.

22nd minute - Banks steals the ball, McDermott clears, but Jordie is underneath and Reiko Ioane carves through midfield.

21st minute - Beauden finds a good touch in Aussie half, Savea wins the lineout and Laulala makes a half break.

20th minute - Aussies win an attacking lineout and try to mount something. Kerevi is being used as a battering ram in midfield, but NZ win a clearing penalty at the breakdown.

18th minute - TRY to Jordie Barrett

Inside his own half, Beauden grubbers ahead and it's regathered by Jordan, who finds Weber running support and Jordie running a line up the middle to score. Beauden converts, NZ 13-0

17th minute - Wallabies are pinned inside their half again and McDermott kicks high, Jordan fields.

16th minute - All Blacks control the kickoff and Beauden kicks upfield. Koroibete is cut down.

15th minute - Beauden slots another penalty from in front, NZ 6-0

13th minute - Retallick wins another lineout, Akira Ioane charges forward and All Blacks eventually win a penalty. Savea tackes a quick penalty and Wallabies aren't back 10 metres.

12th minute - All Blacks steal the ball and Jordan kicks ahead, with Koroibete eventually running into touch just metres from his own line.

11th minute - All Blacks defence holding strong and eventually referee Murphy brings them back for a Rieko Ioane knock-on.

10th minute - From the kickoff, Banks fields a high kick from Weber and Australia try to build an attack.

Ninth minute - Beauden slots it to give All Blacks the early lead, NZ 3-0

Seventh minute - Aussies win a scrum penalty and clear, with the All Blacks pushing early.

Wallabies win an intidy lineout and try to bust out of their half, but concede a penalty. Beauden will kick for goal this time.

Sixth minute - All Blacks win another lineout near the line, but Australia hold them up in the maul and win a feed to the defensive scrum, five metres out.

Fourth minute - Retallick wins the lineout and maul. Barrett kicks across the field to Rieko Ioane, but ref Murphy brings them back for an All Blacks penalty at the maul.

Beauden kicks to the corner again.

Third minute - Taylor throws long to the lineout and Havili gathers skilfully. All Blacks kick and Wallabies burst out of their own territory, with Kerevi putting Koroibete towards the tryline.

Jordan ankle-taps Koroibete just short of the line and it's initially ruled no try. Reviews show Kerevi was offside at the initial ruck, way back inside his own half, so Beauden kicks to the corner.

Second minute - All Blacks win a scrum penalty on the first feed and clear to halfway.

First minute - Lolesio kicks off for Australia, All Blacks forwards control and Beauden clears.

Aussie lineout goes awry and All Blacks will have the feed into a defensive scrum.

6:06pm - Interesting variation on the Aussie anthem, now sung as "one and free", instead of "young and free".

All Blacks perform the Kamate hak, with Perenara leading the chant and Savea out front.

5:59pm - All Blacks run out onto the field for anthems and the haka, led for the first time by Ardie Savea.

As dusk falls in New Zealand, Perth is bathed in sunshine, four hours behind. A lot of Kiwis in the crowd today, belting out God Defend NZ.

*****

Kia ora, good evening and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the third Bledisloe Cup test between the All Blacks and Australia at Perth.

Yes, New Zealand have already secured the silverware for another year, with victories in the opening two games of the series - both at the Eden Park fortress.

While the series-opening win was shaky, with the Wallabies threatening a late comeback, the second encounter was pretty comprehensive and left the Aussies regretting they agreed to the unusual scheduling, due to COVID-19 complications.

They did not hide their disgust, when NZ Rugby delayed the trip across the Tasman for game three, with the country in lockdown and border restrictions threatening the All Blacks' preparation, but now the rivals will play the 'dead' rubber, which also counts towards Rugby Championship standings.

Newly re-signed coach Ian Foster won't have the services of key veterans Sam Whitelock, Aaron Smith, Dane Coles and Richie Mo'unga, handing the captaincy to Ardie Savea, installing two-time World Rugby Player of the Year Beauden Barrett at his preferred first-five position and handing Brad Weber his second start at halfback.

'Something you only dream of': Savea emotional before leading All Blacks haka

Ardie Savea says leading the All Blacks haka will be a dream come dream, as he prepares for his maiden outing as test skipper against Australia in the third Bledisloe Cup test on Sunday.

With Sam Cane, Sam Whitelock, Aaron Smith and Dane Coles unavailable for the All Blacks' Rugby Championship campaign in Australia, Savea, 27, has been handed the reins, starting at Perth's Optus Stadium.

With the captaincy, Savea will also stand at the front of the All Blacks haka, standing on his own at the point of the 'tooth' to face the Wallabies.

At the All Blacks' final training run for Sunday's test, Savea has spoken about the realisation he'd lead the haka for the first time.

"It's something you kind of only dream about when you're a kid," he says. "I had some best mates ask me 'Ards, does that mean you're at the front of the haka?'

"It's not much, because there's 23 of us on the field and I'm just one of them, but those are the moments you kind of dream of as a kid.

"I'm just happy and grateful that mum and dad will be watching on the TV - the family, the friends, watching the All Blacks, and seeing their son go out and lead.

"It'll be awesome."

Savea also revealed messages from All Blacks of the past, congratulating the flanker on his rise to the role of captain.

"[There were] a few people I really looked up to coming through my rugby journey," he adds.

"I had the likes of Ma'a Nonu message me. Even though we're good mates, he was always a hero to me.

"Sonny Bill [Williams], Keven Mealamu, a few Pacific Island brothers that I really looked up to, and tried to follow in their footsteps... just really grateful for them paving the way for us, getting a message of support and just wishing us good luck as a team.

"That kind of hit home, it was pretty special."
