Lock Brodie Retallick will lead the All Blacks for the first time for their Rugby Championship clash against Argentina on the Gold Coast on Sunday.
Retallick takes the reins from Ardie Savea, who was forced from the field due to a head knock early in the 38-21 win over Australia in Perth last weekend.
Both Savea and Codie Taylor - who suffered a similar fate last Sunday - have failed their subsequent Head Injury Assessment (HIAs), ruling them out of action against the Pumas.
Asafo Aumua will replace Taylor to make his first All Blacks start, packing down with props Karl Tu'inukuafe, who comes in for George Bower, and Nepo Laulala.
Prop Joe Moody will make his long-awaited return to international rugby from the bench, making his first appearance since undergoing foot surgery earlier this year.
In Savea's absence, Luke Jacobson slots in at No. 8, forming the loose forward trio with last week's stand-out Akira Ioane and Dalton Papalii.
In backline adjustments, TJ Perenara swaps places with last week's starter Brad Weber, while George Bridge and Sevu Reece replace Rieko Ioane and Will Jordan on the wings.
Alongside Weber and Moody, the bench also includes Damian McKenzie and Rieko Ioane, as the back replacements on the bench, joining forwards Tupou Vaa'i, Tyrel Lomax, Ethan Blackadder, and Samisoni Taukei'aho.
The 30-year-old former World Rugby Player of the Year Retallick has been in outstanding form since returning from his sabbatical in Japan to the test arena, and coach Ian Foster say his appointment as the All Blacks' 71st test captain is richly deserved.
"Brodie is a great leader in this team and we don’t take his leadership for granted," says Foster.
"We think this is a great honour for him, and he and his family can be hugely proud. He's playing really well and leads from the front. He has come back into the black jersey this year and just picked up where he left off.
"He also has an experienced partner in Beaudy (Barrett) alongside him who is bringing a calmness to the team and a sense of direction and we’re seeing that in the way he plays."
With six changes from last weekend's run-on side, Foster confirms rest and rotation were key considerations when selecting the squad to take the park at Robina Stadium.
"The key to selection this week has been about managing the player workload across the whole squad, which I think all teams will be doing in the championship," he says.
"We want to ensure we have a fresh, excited squad ready to play a physical and passionate Argentinian team."
The All Blacks will relocate from Perth to their new Gold Coast base on Friday.
The match against Argentina is the first part of a Rugby Championship double-header on Sunday, with Australia taking on South Africa immediately afterwards.
