Two intercept tries by new centurion Beauden Barrett have sparked the All Blacks to a comprehensive 54-16 victory over Wales at Cardiff's Principality Stadium.
On a night when he became the 11th New Zealand player to reach 100 tests, Barrett showed the class that has seen him to two World Rugby Player of the Year crowns and now regain his No.10 jersey from archrival Richie Mo'unga.
He needed just four minutes to put his team ahead on the scoreboard, lurking in the passing channels to snatch a long pass from NZ-born first-five Gareth Anscombe and dash 40 metres for the try.
Fittingly, just after he was named Player of the Match, Barrett put the exclamation mark on a convincing performance in similar style, pouncing on a loose pass from NZ-born fullback Johnny McNicholl and sprinting 50 metres for the final try.
But the night finished on a sombre note for Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones, who became the world's most-capped player with his 149th test, but left the field with a shoulder injury in the first half. His team missed the veteran lock's presence, as they squandered several attacking lineout chances.
New Zealand always had control of the contest, with halfback TJ Perenara's try providing an 18-6 halftime advantage.
Prop Nepo Laulala was yellow-carded just before the break for not wrapping his arms in a tackle, but the home side weren't able to take full advantage of his departure.
Winger Will Jordan continued his incredible run of tries as an All Black, running back a high kick for his 16th in 11 appearances, but Wales hit back with a try to second-five Johnny Williams that brought them back within 12 points with 18 minutes remaining and a sniff of a comeback.
But as fresh legs came off the bench, the visitors broke the game open, with four unanswered tries. Flanker Dalton Papalii scoring off an attacking lineout and replacement Sevu Reece touching three times before touching down.
Centre Anton Lienert-Brown crossed in the corner, before Barrett capped the outing with his opportunistic effort.
New Zealand also lost one of their key forwards, when Brodie Retallick also suffered a shoulder injury, but he will likely have a couple of weeks to recover, with Italy looming for the tourists' second-stringers next Sunday (NZ time).
All Blacks 54 (B Barrett 2, Perenara, Jordan, Papalii, Reece, Lienert-Brown tries; Jordie Barrett 5 conversions & 3 penalties) Wales 16 (Williams try; Priestland conversion, penalty, Anscombe 2 penalties)
