Kiwi golfer Ryan Fox is one shot off a share of the lead at the PGA European Tour's Andalucia Masters in Spain after the second round.
After shooting a one-under round of 70 on the tournament's opening day, 34-year-old Fox carded an impressive two-under 69 on Saturday (NZ time), sitting at three-under at the halfway stage.
The Kiwi opened his round with a mix bag on the back nine, making an eagle on the par-five 11th hole, only to squander any advantage he held.
After back-to-back bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes, a birdie on the 14th had Fox begin to make up lost ground, only to drop another shot on the 15th.
One last birdie, on the 17th, saw Fox complete his back nine at one-under, and two-under for the round to cement himself in contention.
"I've actually hit it great to be honest, I haven't putted very good so far," Fox said after the back nine.
"The three bogeys I've made, I feel like I've hit really good shots - unfortunately, this is the kind of golf course where you can do that and get penalised.
"I don't have great memories from my first time around here, I right royally got my butt kicked, and decided I'd play it more aggressively this time. It seems to be working alright so far."
Finishing on the front nine, Fox managed a birdie on the fifth, as part of a blemish-free second half of his round.
Fox is currently in a four-way tie for second place on the leaderboard, level with English pair Matt Fitzpatrick and Laurie Canter, as well as Sweden's Sebastian Soderberg.
Fitzpatrick will be rueing his missed opportunity, having led the outright lead up until the final hole, where he made a double-bogey to drop into the logjam for second place.
France's Romain Langasque holds the outright lead at four-under, one shot clear of the chasing pack heading into the third round.
Elsewhere, fellow Kiwi Michael Campbell missed the cut, having finished his second round in 124th position on the 125-man leaderboard, shooting 12-over.
