NZ Warriors chief executive Cameron George has sought an explanation from the NRL, after teenage fullback Reece Walsh was handed a longer ban than three Melbourne Storm players over drug offences.
Walsh, 19, was handed a two-match ban and fined AU$5000, after he was arrested on the Gold Coast and found with a bag of cocaine.
Walsh will face court later this month, charged with one count of possession of a prohibited substance.
As the NRL confirmed sanctions against Walsh, it also handed Melbourne Storm's Cameron Munster, Brandon Smith and Chris Lewis, but only suspended them for one match each.
The trio featured in a social media video, gathered around a table with a white powder on it.
The difference in punishments has George sounding out NRL officials.
"I phoned [NRL] Integrity Unit boss Joe Collins and Andrew Abdo on Tuesday for a 'please explain'," George tells Sydney Morning Herald. "That's all I want to say on the matter."
The Storm trio told the NRL's integrity unit they were too drunk to remember if they took drugs, despite clear evidence from the video, which showed Munster holding a small bag containing the white powder.
