NZ Warriors have not signed playmaker Ash Taylor, despite reports suggesting he has agreed a 'train and trial' contract with the club.
Newshub understands the club hasn’t spoken with Taylor - whose contract with Gold Coast Titans expired at the end of the 2021 season - since chief executive Cameron George and coach Nathan Brown were seen meeting with the Australian last month.
George has since confirmed the Warriors' interest in the half, but nothing has progressed since then.
Earmarked early in his career for greatness, Taylor - who's currently on a AU$1 million contract at the Titans - would face a major paycut, if he took a 'train and trial' deal, which allows the Warriors to have a look at him during pre-season, without having to make any formal commitment.
But the 26-year-old would bolster the Warriors solid halves stocks, with Shaun Johnson returning next season and Kodi Nikorima still at the club.
Sean O'Sullivan will likely not be at the Warriors next year, despite visible improvement throughout the year.
Chanel Harris-Tavita will also be competing for a place in the side. The half is rumoured to be looking elsewhere for next season and beyond, but Newshub understands he's yet to make any decision.
The Warriors reportedly knocked back an approach from Canberra Raiders, with the 22-year-old yet to re-sign, and his contract up at the end of 2022.
Under NRL rules, players and clubs can negotiate openly for the following season from November 1
If a new contract isn’t sorted before then, Harris-Tavita will test the market, with no shortage of interest already from other clubs.
