Both the All Blacks and USA teams have paid tribute to Sean Wainui before the start of their Washington DC test.
The All Blacks took an 11-second pause before launching into their traditional pre-match haka - a nod to Wainui's preferred position on the left wing.
As the US team lined up to face the haka, captain Bryce Campbell came forward to lay down an Eagles jersey bearing Wainui's name and No.11, as well as a jersey featuring late All Blacks great Jerry Collins, bearing the slogan 'Legends never die'.
Both were accepted by All Blacks captain Sam Whitelock and veteran hooker Dane Coles.
The match was won by the All Blacks in predictably comfortable fashion, running away 104-14 to begin their northern tour.
Six60's Matiu Walters also wore Wainui's Māori All Blacks jersey during his pre-match rendition of the NZ national anthem. The hugely popular Kiwi band are currently on tour in the US.
On Sunday, the tangi for the former Chiefs and Māori All Blacks player - who was killed in a car crash last week - will begin at Te Wainui marae near Gisborne.
While the funeral is closed to the media, NZ Rugby has issued a statement on behalf of Wainui's widow, Paige Wainui, and their whanau.
"We just want to thank everyone for their love and generosity," it reads. "The beautiful tributes that have come from those who loved him all across the world means a lot to us all."
On Saturday, players in action across the National Provincial Championship donned black armbands to commemorate Wainui's death.
Wainui's former Taranaki team combined with Manawatū before their match to perform his favourite haka.
Sunday's match between Bay of Plenty and Northland has been postponed to allow players to attend his tangi.
