NZ Breakers have recorded a miraculous ANBL pre-season win, defeating South East Melbourne Phoenix 92-90 with the help of a Finn Delany buzzerbeater.
Down 90-89 with just one second on the clock, Delany produced a double-pump gamewinner from the right hand side, somehow finding the hoop as the buzzer went.
The moment was much needed for Delany, who was acting as the Breakers' captain, after injury to Tom Abercrombie.
"I had to do something - I was s*** all game," Delany says. "I haven't done that before.
“There was only a second on the clock, and I had to double-pump and shoot it off the backboard."
Delany finished his game's work with 12 points, four rebounds, two assists, but despite Delany's heroics, the Breakers' real hero was import Hugo Besson, showing why he's rated as one of the game's future stars.
Besson, 20, led the Breakers scoring with 24 points, along with three rebounds and two assists.
Fellow French wunderkind Ousmane Dieng, 18, also shone before his maiden Australian campaign with 18 points, adding a further nine rebounds.
New Kiwi recruit Yanni Wetzell also contributed with a double-double against his former side, scoring 14 points and snaring 12 rebounds.
The Breakers complete their pre-season against Illawarra Hawks on Thursday, before squaring off against the Phoenix again in their season opener on December 4.
