Kiwi golfer Danny Lee has fired his way to a second-place finish with a blistering final stretch at the PGA event in Bermuda.
Starting the day tied for second, Lee wobbled on the back nine with a pair of bogeys, before recovering in spectacular fashion, with three consecutive birdies from the 16th hole to fire an even-par 71 in his final round - one shot behind Australian winner Lucas Herbert.
Lee closed in a two-way tie with American Patrick Reed at 14-under overall.
After failing to secure his PGA Tour card for 2021/22, a medical exemption has allowed Lee 10 entries and he made the most of his opportunity at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
Lee had put himself in contention with scorching earlier rounds of 67, 67 and 65, and despite salvaging second, will be disappointed he couldn't capitalise to win his first Tour event since 2015.
The 31-year-old made a superb start to his day, holing birdies at the second and third holes to send him to the top of the leaderboard at the turn.
But a nightmare run of double bogey, bogey, bogey saw him drop off the pace, before his late run lifted him back among the leaders.
"A lot of good and a lot of bad," Lee says of his day. "I fought really hard for it, just 12-14 was a very, very tough stretch for me.
"I hit a really, really good shot on 12, just went over the green by I don't know how much, but it was kind of a tough shot from back there. Made a silly double there.
"I was just kind of a little confused with my putting."
Next year, Lee - who was once ranked as high as No.34 in the world - will predominantly play on the Korn Ferry Tour, as he tries to earn his PGA card back.
