Melbourne Cup runner Tralee Rose has been taken to hospital, after reportedly being galloped on during Tuesday's race at Flemington.
According to the Age, the Kiwi-born five-year-old ran ninth in the Melbourne Cup, but suffered a laceration to one of her hind legs and was taken to Werribee Vet Hospital for scans, feared to have tendon damage.
Tralee Rose will undergo a precautionary examination to determine the severity of the injury.
Reports from Flemington indicate all 22 other horses that took part in the Melbourne Cup were healthy after the race.
The field was reduced to 23 horses on Tuesday, as six-year-old gelding Future Score was scratched by vets with lameness.
Since 2013, seven horses have died after the Melbourne Cup, leading to criticism from animal welfare groups and advocates.
Kiwi horse Verry Elleegant won the race, ridden by New Zealand jockey James McDonald and trained by expat Chris Waller.
