New Zealand driver Shane van Gisbergen is one result away from claiming the 2021 Supercars title, after victory at Sydney SuperNight opening race.
Van Gisbergen, 32, claimed his 14th victory of the season, fighting through the field to take the chequered flag.
The Kiwi's victory also sealed the teams championship title for Red Bull - their 10th time claiming the honour. The result extends van Gisbergen's championship lead to 349 points, heading into the second race of the weekend on Sunday.
Should van Gisbergen finish higher than teammate and championship rival Jamie Whincup, the Kiwi will claim the Supercars crown with one race to spare - the Bathurst 1000
Should Whincup finish above van Gisbergen, the Kiwi could still win the championship, depending on where he finishes in relation to his teammate.
The championship would be Van Gisbergen's second Supercars crown, after claiming his first in 2016.
