Winter Olympics: Kiwi snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott moves on from lockdown frustrations in Beijing Games preparations

Kiwi snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott is hoping to put a frustrating few months behind her, as she begins her winter season overseas, before next year's Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Sadowski-Synnott is in desperate need of prolonged time on the snow, as she eyes back to back Olympic medals.

The 20-year-old is confident she can call on her other skills, and overcome the baggage of lockdowns and little snow in New Zealand.

"Since Pyeongchang and coming into these Olympics, I've got a lot more experience I can use," she tells Newshub.

"I think that's a tool I can use."

Sadowski-Synnott has had little trouble making it count.

She's won five X Games medals, two of them gold with a further two Slopestyle World Championships.

That, coupled with her stunning bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang has her feeling the pinch ahead of Beijing.

"There's definitely more expectation going into these Games."

But even with the pressure to medal following her down every slope, the 20 year-old has much more of a level head this time around.

"Performance comes over outcome for me," she adds.

"Of course I wanna win gold, but it's not just about the outcome, it's how you get there."

But making progress towards these games has not been easy.

"It started off with not the best snow, and then lockdown came along just as the snow was starting to get good.

"So it wasn't exactly as it panned out to be."

That disrupted build-up hasn't just been restricted to New Zealand either, affecting Sadowski-Synnott's preparation in Austria as well.

"They've just entered a full nationwide lockdown and it's unclear whether we'll be able to train under these restrictions."

But like always, she's taking everything in her stride.

"I don't really think I've grown up all that much. I've definitely become a much more confident athlete though."

She's now hoping that confidence leads to another Olympic medal.
