Devon Conway's return to cricket hasn't gone to plan, with the Blackcaps batter dismissed for a duck in the New Zealand XI warm-up match against Bangladesh at Mt Maunganui.
Batting at No.3, Conway arrived at the crease with the NZ XI's score at 8/1, but didn't trouble the scorers as he was sent back to the pavilion for a second ball duck, caught behind by Liton Das off the bowling of Abu Jayed.
The NZ XI were 71/5 in their first innings, before ongoing rain finally brought a halt to the day's play.
Conway is batting for, and captaining, the New Zealand XI to prove his fitness for the Blackcaps' test series against Bangladesh, beginning on January 1 at Mount Maunganui.
The left-hander hasn't played any cricket since November, where he broke his hand punching his bat in New Zealand's Twenty20 World Cup semi-final victory against England.
But back in training with the New Zealand set-up in Tauranga, Conway appears to have passed any required fitness tests to prove he's ready to line up for the Blackcaps' first test of the summer.
"[I'm] looking forward to the challenges against the Bangladeshis in the next two days," Conway told Newshub on Monday. "It was a very good net today. I got to face Neil Wagner and Trent Boult at a pretty high intensity.
"It was good to get those net sessions in, and lift up that intensity - which is quite exciting. [I'm] looking forward to what's happening ahead.
"I'm very happy from my end. I was a little bit nervous going into some of the training sessions. But I'm pretty happy with the way things are placed.
"I'm looking forward to the next couple of days and to play in the practice game against Bangladesh."
Conway wasn't the only Blackcap turning out for the New Zealand XI, with seamer Neil Wagner also part of the side.
