Former Blackcaps batsman Colin Munro has blasted a record-breaking century to guide Perth Scorchers to a 49-run win over Adelaide Strikers in their Twenty20 Big Bash League clash in Sydney.
Munro, 34, slayed an unbeaten 114 off 73 balls to notch the highest score in Scorchers history, surpassing the 112 made by Craig Simmons seven years ago.
Dropped twice by the Strikers, the Aucklander rode his luck with a whirlwind innings that included eight fours and six sixes, helping his side to a total of 195/1.
In reply, the Strikers were dismissed for just 146 in the 18th over.
Munro's century is his fifth in T20 cricket, but first in the Australian domestic competition - a knock he describes as "one of my best", as he overcame early struggles against a swinging new ball to fire himself into the record books.
"It's one of those innings where I don't think I've ever faced a white ball that moved that much, so it was tough at the start," Munro told Fox Cricket. "I probably didn’t hit a ball in the middle of my bat until the sixth or seventh over.
"It was just a sigh of relief [reaching triple figures]. Sometimes, I can throw it away and I told [coach Adam Voges] at the 10-over mark, 'I promise you, I’m trying to kick them over, mate... I'm trying to hit one up with chimney'.
"It's funny how things turn - one or two good shots and you’re away.
"I reckon it's probably one of my best to be honest. When you've got to fight like that, and really scratch around and bat the full 20 overs, it’s really pleasing, especially for someone like me, who just wants to go out there and smash it from the start.
"I showed a little bit more maturity and that word doesn’t go too much with me."
A limited-overs specialist, Munro has played 65 T20 internationals for the Blackcaps, but was overlooked for selection at last month's World Cup tournament in the UAE.
