A drainlayer by day, Aucklander Ben Robb is one of the best at operating a digger.
"I'm a pretty important piece of the jigsaw," he chuckles.
While that's how he makes his living now, he dreams of doing so at the oche in the future and, at first glance, you can see why.
"I'm pretty handy in both to be fair," admits Robb. "I'd rather make my money on the dartboard than the digger, but, hey, I'll take what I can get."
He'll get a shot at his biggest payday yet, when he competes at the World Darts Championship in London next month, and he’s leaving no stone unturned.
The dartboard at the yard has been getting a hammering - this easy-to-assemble set-up has given a new meaning to having a few darts on the worksite.
"I can set up wherever I want really and it;s just finding the time, whether I have 10 minutes at smoko break or whether the kids are outside, I can just pick up the darts and have a quick throw."
He hopes the sneaky practice will see him improve on his last outing at the world tournament two years ago, where he progressed past the first round, but just competing at the Alexandra Palace - the inconice 'Ally Pally' comes with goosebumps.
"It's hard to explain, it's a lot of adrenaline," he says. "You get more excited when you're standing there on the walk on."
If Robb can progress as far as the third round, he'll likely come up against darts icon Michael Van Gerwan, whom he met in Australia in 2019.
"He did wallop me," recalls Robb. "He gave me a good hiding, he beat me 6-0."
The player fittingly nicknamed 'Big Rig' is now shifting his focus to darts, leaving the worksite - at least for now - before flying out to London.
