A COVID-19 crisis is brewing within the Wellington Phoenix with the club confirming positive cases inside the men's squad.

On Thursday, the club announced two players and a staff member had tested positive for the virus and are isolating away from the rest of the squad.

The Phoenix have a game scheduled for Saturday against Adelaide United and the remainder of the team is still planning on traveling to South Australia on Friday.

The club says it is following A-League COVID protocols that include screening and detecting for the virus and if positive cases are confirmed, immediate isolation will be enforced.

Saturday night's game against Adelaide could be in doubt if further cases are detected within the squad.

“As it stands right now the game is on and we’re preparing for that as normal," says Football Operations Manager Shaun Gill.

"We had a training session today for matchday minus two, and based on the flight scheduled we’re due to fly out tomorrow [Friday] at 12:30.

"All of them [the positive cases] are doing well.

"The symptoms are very mild. A pretty basic cold or flu, so that’s a positive thing."
