Winter Olympics: Skier Alice Robinson scores career-best Super-G finish at latest World Cup event in Switzerland

Kiwi alpine skier Alice Robinson has scored a career-best finish at the Super-G World Cup event in Switzerland, finishing just 0.09s off the podium at the Swiss resort of St Moritz.

The youngest competitor in the field, Robinson, 20 bounced back from a disappointing 24th in race one on Sunday, when she was 3.02 seconds behind hometown winner Lara Gut-Behrami.

Robinson says, following that run, she knew she had to make improvements.

"It's a difficult slope with lots of terrain and rolls, and it was also quite flat light, but I had some good sections and a couple of decent size mistakes, so a lot of room for improvement."

And improve she did, completing a stellar run that left her 0.52s behind race winner Federica Brignone from Italy.

The Sydney-born, Queenstown-based youngster improved on her previous best of 10th in Super-G, while she holds two World Cup wins in the giant slalom.

"Yeah, it was super exciting," Robinson tells NZME. "It was a lowered start because of the wind, so it was kind of sprint and it was super fast.

"It's a really difficult slope and yesterday was my first day on it, so today I knew it a little bit better.

"I had a lot more confidence and going over all the terrain, I felt like I had a really solid run, especially at the top.

"It's just amazing to have a result in the top five, so I'm showing that I'm a real contender in multiple disciplines."

Robinson will race for New Zealand at the Beijing Winter Olympics early next year.
