White Ferns veteran Amy Satterthwaite was dismissed off the last-ball as Auckland Hearts pipped Canterbury Magicians by a run on the T20 Super Smash on Friday.
Chasing 136 for victory, Satterthwaite batted superbly until the final ball of the match when she skied Holly Huddleston into the gloves of wicketkeeper Izzy Gaze who took a simple catch to seal a dramatic win for the home side on Eden Park's Outer Oval.
The former New Zealand skipper ended 70 off 59, but her last ball slog put a sour note on an otherwise sublime knock.
Earlier Lauren Down's unbeaten 66 (59 balls) ensured a tricky run chase for the Magicians as the Hearts posted 135 from their 20 overs.
At 40/3 after eight overs, Auckland was in trouble but Down and Huddlestone (42) combined for 75 in 11 overs to build a match-winning score.
Lea Tahuhu took 2/13 from four overs in her return from a shoulder injury, completing an impressive spell that will excite national selectors with a 50-over World Cup just months away.
Frankie Mackay scored 34 in the Cantabrian chase while Molly Penfold took 2/29 as the Hearts climbed above the red and blacks on net run rate.
