Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell has taken what's being described as the best catch in the history of the Australian Big Bash League, pulling in a one-handed stunner in his side's eight-wicket victory over Brisbane Heat.
Fielding first, the Stars were in the driver's seat, with their opposition at 103/3 in the 16th over, that situation only improved, as captain Maxwell's acrobatics came to the fore.
As Sam Heazlett skied a chance over the infield, Maxwell produced a stunning effort, running backwards from mid-on, leaping and taking the catch one-handed behind him to send the batter on his way.
The catch even seemed to surprise Maxwell, who needed a moment to compose himself afterwards.
"That is the catch of the BBL," said ex-Australian fast bowler Brett Lee in commentary.
"I reckon that is one of the best catches I have seen in any form of cricket ever - that is a catch for the ages."
Carrying that momentum into his efforts with the bat, Maxwell scored 37 from 30 balls, after the Heat were restricted to 149/6 from their 20 overs.
English import Joe Clarke led the way for the Stars, topscoring with 62 from 36 balls, as part of an opening stand worth 104 in 10.4 overs with Maxwell.
The Stars chased down the total with more than six overs to spare, winning by eight wickets.
