11:00am
Elgar takes his guard to face the first ball. Southee stands at the top of his mark.
We'll first observe a moment for the Black Lives Matter movement though as both sides take a knee.
10:59am
Anthems are done.
Latham leads the Blackcaps' huddle. This will be a key first morning - but again all the pressure is on South Africa's batters.
Tim Southee warms up to take the new ball first up. South Africa's openers make their way to the middle.
10:54am
We're about 10 minutes from the start of play.
There's a generous helping of cloud cover, and the pitch isn't as green as the last, but still grassy.
Make no mistake, this is a bowling day. Pressure on South Africa to justify Elgar's decision to bat first.
The two sides are out for the national anthems.
10:40am
Interesting selection calls from South Africa. Aiden Markram keeps his place, although that might not have been the case had Hamza not been injured.
Maharaj does give the Proteas a spin option, and he's won tests against the Blackcaps in New Zealand in the past - namely back in 2017 - but will this pitch give him anything to work with?
Play about 20 minutes away.
10:38am
The Blackcaps are unchanged from their victory in the first test.
NZ: 1-Tom Latham (c), 2-Will Young, 3-Devon Conway, 4-Henry Nicholls, 5-Daryl Mitchell, 6-Tom Blundell (wk), 7-Colin de Grandhomme, 8-Kyle Jamieson, 9-Tim Southee, 10-Neil Wagner, 11-Matt Henry.
South Africa meanwhile have made three changes. Wiaan Mulder comes in as the all-rounder for an injured Zuabayr Hamza. Keshav Maharaj replaces Duanne Olivier, and Lutho Simpala takes Glenton Stuurman's place.
SA: 1-Dean Elgar (c), 2-Sarel Erwee, 3-Aiden Markram, 4-Rassie van der Dussen, 5-Temba Bavuma, 6-Kyle Verreyne (wk), 7-Wiaan Mulder, 8-Keshav Maharaj, 9-Marco Jansen, 10-Kagiso Rabada, 11-Lutho Simpala.
10:34am
Out in the middle for the toss, Dean Elgar calls heads, and it's heads.
South Africa win the toss and they're going to bat first?!
Huge shock, there's grass on the wicket - as has been the case with just about every pitch in NZ over the last few years.
10:15am
Good morning! We're about 15 minutes from the toss, and the start of play in this second test between the Blackcaps and South Africa.
We'll bring you the toss, conditions and playing XIs as soon as we can!
*****
Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the second test between the Blackcaps and South Africa, from Chirstchurch's Hagley Oval.
Mark my words, New Zealand will not get a better opportunity for a maiden test series win over South Africa than this.
The Blackcaps took a 1-0 series lead before lunch on day three, wrapping up the first test by an innings and 276 runs.
And should they avoid defeat in the second consecutive test at Hagley Oval, the Blackcaps will achieve what no Kiwi side has been able to do before them.
What's more, victory in the second test will also see the Blackcaps return to the top of the ICC's test match rankings.
Trent Boult's continued absence will likely see an unchanged XI from the Blackcaps - allowing first test hero Matt Henry to keep his spot and take the new ball.
South Africa meanwhile will likely look to copy New Zealand's five-strong seam attack approach, and could bring in all-rounder Wiaan Mulder in place of one of the batters.
TAB odds: New Zealand $1.50, South Africa $4.05, draw $5.70
