Former Emirates Team New Zealand skipper Dean Barker's America's Cup career could be over, after being excluded from American Magic's core crew for their 2024 challenge.
Barker, 48, helmed American Magic in their 2021 challenge in Auckland, but has been left out of their plans for the next edition of the Cup, with just one member of the core team returning - Andrew Campbell.
And thanks to new eligibility rules being introduced for 2024, Barker is only able to represent a syndicate that he holds a national passport for, or competed with during the 2021 Cup.
Those rules restrict Barker to either Team NZ or American Magic.
Elsewhere, Britain's Paul Goodison is the only foreigner in the six-strong core crew named, after re-signing following his involvement in the 2021 challenge.
The American quintet of the returning Andrew Campbell and Dan Morris, as well as newcomers Lucas Calabrese, Riley Gibbs and Michael Menninger make up the rest of the core.
Three-time America's Cup sailor Tom Burnham has been named as the team's coach, while long-serving skipper Terry Hutchinson remains, expected to be in an on-shore role with crew numbers cut from 11 to eight for the next Cup.
