Wellington Phoenix's Sunday night A-League clash against Melbourne City at Leichhardt Oval has been postponed, as a result of extreme weather conditions.

Originally scheduled to kick off at 6:05pm (NZ time), the match was on Sunday evening delayed by an hour in the hope conditions would improve to allow for play.

But unrelenting wet weather in New South Wales has seen the match postponed entirely, leaving the Phoenix with another game to catch up on.

The Leichhardt Oval playing surface was already in a questionable condition after a week's worth of extreme weather in Lilyfield.

This is the second Phoenix game in a row to be postponed due to weather, with last week's match against Western Sydney Wanderers also called off.

With weather and COVID postponements so far this season, the Phoenix now have five A-League matches to catch up on, currently seventh on the ladder - but outside of the top six and finals contention on goal difference.

The Phoenix play the first of those games on Wednesday, facing Newcastle Jets at Gosford.
