2:00pm

Stephan Myburgh, brother of ex-Canterbury batter Johann, and Auckland-born Max O'Dowd make their way to the middle to open the batting for the Netherlands.

Kyle Jamieson takes the ball first for the Blackcaps.

1:55pm

We'll have the national anthems, before play gets underway in around five minutes.

1:50pm

Good toss to win for the Netherlands, the pitch looks like a Bay Oval classic.

Bay Oval is generally a great wicket to bat first on, so there'll be pressure on the visitors to post a competitive total to defend. The pitch is dry, down to the weather in Mt Maunganui, so expect Ish Sodhi and Michael Bracewell to play their part with the ball.

1:46pm

It looks like this is how the Netherlands will line up:

Netherlands: 1-Stephan Myburgh, 2-Max O'Dowd, 3-Vikramjit Singh, 4-Bas de Leede, 5-Scott Edwards (wk), 6-Michael Rippon, 7-Pieter Seelaar (c), 8-Logan van Beek, 9-Philippe Boissevain, 10-Fred Klaasen, 11-Brandon Glover.

1:38pm

Two debutants for New Zealand today, Michael Bracewell makes his first apperance as a Blackcap, while Blair Tickner will play his first ODI after already appearing in T20 cricket.

NZ: 1-Martin Guptill, 2-Henry Nicholls, 3-Will Young, 4-Ross Taylor, 5-Tom Latham (c & wk), 6-Michael Bracewell, 7-Colin de Grandhomme, 8-Kyle Jamieson, 9-Ish Sodhi, 10-Matt Henry, 11-Blair Tickner

There's no official listing for the visitors, yet. But there'll be a few familiar faces for the Netherlands. Kiwi-born Max O'Dowd and Logan van Beek both play, while Otago's Michael Rippon also lines up.

1:34pm

Both captains in the middle, Tom Latham and Pieter Seelaar.

Seelaar calls correctly, and the Netherlands will bat first!

We'll have the playing XIs for you shortly.

1:20pm

Good afternoon! There's a few clouds, but otherwise exceptional weather in the Bay of Plenty. Fingers crossed it stays this way and we can avoid a repeat of Friday's Napier washout!

We're about 10 minutes away from the toss, so stay tuned for news from the middle!

Kia ora, good afternoon and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the one-day international clash between New Zealand and the Netherlands at Mt Maunganui's Bay Oval.

Incredibly, this will be the only international men's white-ball series in New Zealand this summer and its importance has been slightly diluted by the absence of many Blackcaps regulars, now contesting the Indian Premier League.

The home team still contain many of our leading performers, perhaps not at this particular form of the game.

In Kane Williamson's absence, Tom Latham will again captain the side, but one name stands out among his teammates - retiring legend Ross Taylor, who has already played his last test and will depart the international stage for good during this series.

The Dutch are somewhat of a mystery team, still not an official test nation, but a regular participant in limited-overs forms. The T20 match between these two sides was rained out in Napier last Friday, but the Blackcaps faced Netherlands in a warm-up match before last year's T20 World Cup

Join us at 1:30pm for the toss...

TAB Odds: NZ $1.04, Netherlands $9

New Zealand squad: Tom Latham, Michael Bracewell, Doug Bracewell, Colin de Grandhomme, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Henry Nicholls, Ish Sodhi, Ross Taylor, Blair Tickner, George Worker, Will Young

Taylor family ready to savour dad's parting shots with Blackcaps against Netherlands

Alex Chapman

For the final time in his international career, Ross Taylor's preparation for a Blackcaps series are underway.

The squad has gathered in Tauranga, before the three one-day internationals against the Netherlands, starting Tuesday.

In just a week's time, the legendary batter will farewell the international scene after 16 years, but top of mind for Taylor is simply making sure he can get some cricket in, with inclement weather approaching at Mt Maunganui and Hamilton - the hosts for the three matches.

"The forecast doesn't look great for a couple of them," he notes.

Weather aside, Taylor’s final series coincides with the return of George Worker, who's back from the international wilderness, after three-and-a-half years.

"I guess you always start to think about whether you’ll play for New Zealand again," Worker admits. "But it's just great to be here."

A dominant debut season with Auckland and Mark Chapman's positive COVID-19 test have opened the door for Worker's recall, and he's delighted to reunite with his former Central Districts teammate.

But for the Taylor family, this week is about relishing the little time left on the pitch, and he intends having daughter Mackenzie and son Jonty by his side - both given a free pass to skip school to attend their father's swansong series.

"Schooling and all of that is important, but some of these memories are more important than that," says Taylor. "They can always go to school, but they can't go sit next to Tom [Latham] and [Martin Guptill] in the changing room."

Reading and writing can wait, when you have the chance to learn from the best.
