Motorsport: Shane van Gisbergen goes back-to-back in Tasmania to extend Supercars championship lead

Shane van Gisbergen has gone back-to-back at Supercars' Tasmania SuperSprint to add to his overall championship lead.

After winning race three of the new Supercars season on Saturday, van Gisbergen topped the podium again in race four on Sunday, after securing pole position earlier in the day at Symmons Plains.

Despite starting at the front of the grid though, van Gisbergen was made to work for his latest victory, and lost his lead inside the opening lap after being overtaken by Red Bull Triple Eight teammate Broc Feeney.

But after a crash between Jack Le Brocq and Andre Heimgartner forced a 20-minute stoppage, van Gisbergen retook the lead on the seventh lap, and again on the 26th lap after a pit stop.

After losing the lead, Feeney still did enough to hold on to second place for his first podium finish in Supercars, while David Reynolds came home third after pipping Chaz Mostert.

The win was van Gisbergen's 57th in Supercars, and his 142nd podium, and extended his championship lead to 43 points over Anton De Pasquale.

The Supercars race weekend will conclude with a 44-lap sprint race later on Sunday.
