Skier Corey Peters has claimed New Zealand's first gold in the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing.
Peters blitzed the field in the sitting downhill event, setting a time that no other racer was able to get close to to top the podium at his third Paralympics Games.
The gold completed the perfect set of Winter Paralympic medals for Peters, who won silver in Sochi in 2014 and then bronze four years later in PyeongChang.
"That was obviously my main goal, to finish off that set," Peters told TVNZ.
"To me, it feels like icing on the cake to a pretty successful career. I risked everything on that run - it was probably the run of my life."
Peters' build-up to the Games was disrupted by a case of COVID-19 while training in Colorado over the new year.
"It's been a bit weird and I suspect everyone is sick of hearing about Covid but it's been the talk of our buildup the past couple of years," he said recently.
"It hasn't been the best buildup I've ever had but I've got the experience behind me so just got to try and bank on that I guess."
Earlier this afternoon, Kiwi Adam Hall opened his fifth Winter Paralympics campaign with a 19th place in the men's standing downhill.
Peters will also compete in the Super G event on Sunday.
