Football: Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo takes out frustrations on fan after Manchester United loss to Everton

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has apologised for taking out his frustrations on a fan, after his Manchester United side lost 1-0 to English Premier League rivals Everton.

Video of the Portugese forward apparently smashing the fan's phone as he left Goodison Park was posted on social media, after his team's European ambitions next season suffered another blow against opposition battling to stay clear of relegation.

While the video is inconclusive - some comments maintain he was throwing a shin pad - Ronaldo has posted on Instagram, admitting to poor behaviour and offering to repay the fan with tickets to a Manchester United home game.

"It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing," he said. "Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game.

"I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford, as a sign of fairplay and sportsmanship."

The result leaves Manchester United languishing in seventh place on the Premier League table - six points shy of a Champions League spot - with just one win in their last five outings and only seven games remaining.
