Golf: Kiwi Lydia Ko falls out of contention at Chevron Championship

Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko has fallen off the pace, after the penultimate round at the Chevron Championship at California on Sunday (NZ time).

After a stellar opening round at year's first Major put her among the leaders, Ko improved on her disappointing second round to card a two under-par 70 in her third at the Mission Hills Country Club's Dinah Shore Tournament Course.

But she now sits 11 shots adrift of leader runaway Jennifer Kupcho of the US at five-under overall for the tournament, and is locked in a 10-way share of 11th.

Ko shot four birdies through the first 12 holes - including a back-to-back on the 11th and 12th - to move as high as a share of fifth place.

But a double-bogey on the 14th and bogey on the 16th saw her drop back down the leaderboard.

Kupcho holds a six-shot lead over her nearest rival Thailand's Patty Tavatanaki of Thailand, with Jessica Korda a further shot back in third.
