NZ Warriors could soon be boosted by the return of captain Tohu Harris, on the mend from a knee injury suffered last year.
Harris, 30, has been out of action since a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in round 10 of 2021, and has been biding his time before he can return to the Warriors' side.
And after watching his side's recent woes, Harris is poised to return to the team's ranks in the coming weeks, entering the final stages of his recovery from a knee reconstruction.
"It's pretty soon," Harris said of his return. "There's still things I need to tick off. I need to get a certain amount of full training in.
"I'm back into full training, there's no restrictions or anything - full contact, full go. I've just got to get time under my belt doing that to tick the last box.
"Whenever I get that tick, I'm not too sure. I've got another check-up with the surgeon at some point over the weekend or early next week. So it's all go from here."
Like many of the Warriors' faithful, Harris was just a spectator to the side's most recent showing - a record 70-10 loss to Melbourne Storm.
And with the club ready to try and bounce back against Canberra Raiders on Saturday, Harris himself is counting down the days until he can rejoin his teammates.
"It was hard to see [for] all the people that you've spent three years over here with, and you go through long hard days in pre-season, working hard with each other.
"Not being able to do anything to help them and seeing them sort of go through that pain was really hard to watch from the sidelines.
"I can't wait to get out there and try and help wherever I can, or go through the highs and lows of footy with those guys."
