The Hurricanes consolidated their place in Super Rugby Pacific's top eight, courtesy of an emphatic 53-12 victory over Moana Pasifika at Wellington's Sky Stadium.
Nearly three weeks on from a shock loss to the same opposition in a golden point thriller at Mt Smart Stadium, the Hurricanes had the last laugh over Super Rugby's newcomers, running in eight tries for a bonus-point win.
What's more, the Hurricanes did so with All Blacks stars Jordie Barrett, Tyrel Lomax and captain Ardie Savea not even in the squad, with the game coming just days after Saturday's 24-21 loss to the Crusaders, as part of a congested schedule to make up games lost to COVID-19 disruption.
The win moves the Hurricanes past Australia's Western Force and into seventh place on the Super Rugby Pacific ladder, with 16 points from seven matches, two points behind the Chiefs.
Moana Pasifika meanwhile remain bottom of the ladder, with just four points and one victory from their first seven matches in their inaugural campaign.
Out for revenge after last month's shock loss, it took the Hurricanes less than two minutes to open the scoring, as prop Alex Fidow crashed over from close range.
A penalty to Ruben Love gave the Hurricanes an 8-0 lead, before Moana Pasifika hit back with a try of their own to blood replacement Michael Curry - who was then immediately subbed off again.
The Hurricanes struggled to add a second, having an effort to lock Tom Parsons ruled out for a knock-on in the lead-up, and an attempt by Blake Gibson fell short of the tryline.
But minutes after being denied, Gibson did manage to score the Hurricanes' second try, finishing off from a lineout drive.
Wes Goosen added the Hurricanes' third before halftime, making the most of an overlap on the right flank to give the home side a 22-5 advantage at the break.
Moana Pasifika conceded four out of six tries to rolling mauls in last week's defeat to the Highlanders, and the Hurricanes added to that after the break when hooker Kianu Kereru-Symes scored on debut for the Hurricanes' fourth of the night.
Kereru-Symes was rushed into the starting side for his debut at the last second, as hooker James O'Reilly was injured in the warm-up.
A midfield break from Bailyn Sullivan put TJ Perenara through to score his 58th Super Rugby try, third on the all-time list with just Doug Howlett (59) and Israel Folau (60) having scored more than the Hurricanes and All Blacks halfback.
But Moana Pasifika ensured that they'd at the very least avoid a cricket scoreline, as Alex McRobbie grabbed his side's second try, as a Christian Leali'ifano conversion cut the Hurricanes' advantage to 36-12.
From there though, it was one-way traffic for the rest of the night.
Perenara turned from scorer into provider, cleverly taking a quick tap to put replacement prop Pasilio Tosi away for a try under the posts, before acting captain Reed Prinsep added the Hurricanes' seventh by overpowering Moana Pasifika's scrum right on the tryline.
Gibson completed the scoring in the 70th minute, scoring his second of the night from another rolling maul, bringing up the Hurricanes' half-century.
The victory will be considered to be an assuring one for the Hurricanes, after resting a host of their key players, keeping the likes of Savea and Barrett fresh for this weekend - when the Hurricanes travel to Dunedin to face the Highlanders on Saturday.
Moana Pasifka are also backing up for a third game in the space of eight days, when they face the Chiefs in Hamilton on Saturday, after going down 59-12 in the two sides' first meeting earlier in the season.
Hurricanes 53 (Fidow, Gibson 2, Goosen, Kereru-Symes, Perenara, Tosi, Prinsep tries; Love 4, Morgan conversions; Love penalty)
Moana Pasifika 12 (Curry, McRobbie tries; Leali'ifano conversion)
